blog chapter #4

For chapter 4 I chose the two women with a child sculpture. This sculpture has a few different meanings in my eyes and it definitely relates to life today. The first meaning it has is a family meaning. It can be a mother and grandmother with a child. It just shows how great family is and how much love they can give to one another. Another meaning that it might have is a lesbian partnership. It shows that no matter who we are everybody is able to be successful as long as they have love. There is a lot of hate in this world today just as there was back then but I think overall this sculpture just shows love an compassion towards somebody close. It is something everybody should do especially in the hard times that we are having right now. Love is all we need to get by.

I really liked the piece you commented about. I find myself wondering what the real purpose of this sculpture really is. Because of it's tiny size, and the fact that is was meant to be held in the palm of the hand, I like to think that this was some sort of "family photo". Because they didn't have photo's back then (in fact, it seems they didn't even have mounted canvases for painted portraits either), this was probably the next best thing. I can just picture in my mind, some wealthy parent, away from home, laying in bed and holding this little sculpture in their hand, thinking about loved ones at home. I'm probably way off, but that type of loving scene is what I think of what I see this piece.

this sculpture is wonderful, and this shows the basic step of stability in family; it's kindness between the members of family.
